Kenneth Luckey is an award-winning music educator, clinician, conductor, and professional trumpeter with more than 20 years of experience as a performer and educator. He serves as Director of Bands at Tunkhannock Area High School and Music Department Chair for the Tunkhannock Area School District, where he oversees a comprehensive instrumental music program that includes a 100-plus-member marching band, two concert bands, three jazz bands, and numerous chamber ensembles. Under his direction, ensembles have consistently earned high adjudication ratings while experiencing continued growth in student participation. Luckey was recognized with the Manilow Music Teacher Award for his work as a music educator in June, 2026.
An active and in-demand clinician, guest conductor, and soloist, Luckey has worked with numerous PMEA honors ensembles as well as other honors concert and jazz ensembles throughout Pennsylvania. He served on the PMEA District 9 Board as Jazz Coordinator from 2012 to 2019 and currently serves as Jazz Trumpet and Brass Specialist for the Pennsylvania Jazz Institute. He has also served as adjunct faculty for the Division of Performing Arts at Wilkes University.
As a professional trumpeter, Luckey has performed throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York with artists and ensembles spanning a wide variety of musical genres. As Principal Trumpet of the Scranton Brass Orchestra, he has performed with internationally recognized artists including Wycliffe Gordon, Vincent Gardner, Mark Gould, Chris Jaudes, and Joe Boga. He is also Principal Trumpet of the Susquehanna Valley Brass Quintet and performs regularly with Marko Marcinko’s SJF Big Band, recently sharing the stage with jazz legends Arturo Sandoval, Joe Lovano, and Ron Carter.
Luckey earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance, a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida, and a Master of Education from Wilkes University.
