Ä¢¹½tv¹ÙÍø Interior Architecture Students Reimagine Campus Theatre Through National Competition

Published News Story

Ä¢¹½tv¹ÙÍø third- and fourth-year Interior Architecture students are participating in the national ASTC–USITT Student Venue Renovation Challenge, developing ideas to reimagine the university’s performing arts theatre.

The competition gives students an opportunity to apply their interior architecture and design skills to a real performance space while exploring how theatre design can better support performers, audiences, and the campus community.

As part of the initiative, Ä¢¹½tv¹ÙÍø welcomed a nationally recognized theatre consultant to campus to speak with students studying Music, Theatre, Architecture, Art, and Interior Architecture. The visit introduced students to the work of theatre consultants and the design and technical considerations involved in creating and renovating performing arts spaces.

For Ä¢¹½tv¹ÙÍø’s Interior Architecture students, the project brings classroom learning into a familiar setting. By rethinking the university’s performing arts theatre, students can explore how thoughtful design can improve the experience of those who use the space while considering the relationship between architecture, interior design, and the performing arts.

The competition also gives students insight into professional opportunities in theatre consulting and performance venue design. Working on a theatre renovation project allows students to consider the practical needs of a performance space alongside its design, function, and overall experience.

The 2027 ASTC–USITT Student Venue Renovation Challenge projects will be presented at the USITT Conference and Stage Expo in Baltimore, Maryland, March 17–20, 2027.
